Working with wedding couples who come to Spain to celebrate their wedding day has to be the best job in the world. It’s the excitement of meeting new people, and hearing about how they met, and finding out who said those three words first?
How I work with wedding couples in Spain
It’s a privilege to be given your trust to write your ceremony, for what is going to be one of the most important moments in your lives. There are worries, concerns, questions, of course there are. The What if?, Will I?, the Can we etc. So many questions, and most if not all of these questions have simple answers, let me explain.
What is important to you?
The first question I ask when working with wedding couples is “What is important to you? What is the most important part of your wedding day for you”? This question is asked by most professional celebrants, each will get a different answer. Let me stress here, there are no wrong answers.
For some it’s the dress, for some it’s the party, for some they want it “to be fun all the way” for them and their friends. Once we know what is important to you, we can start to form ideas on what to write for your day. For my clients, it’s the ceremony, but more importantly, the words. Their story is what they want to hear, full of romance, with a little laughter, a few tears and a little bit of wedding magic sprinkled on for added sparkle.
The first meeting!
So, at the first meeting, after we have looked at the ring, I do love things that sparkle and shine! And, after I have asked the “What is important to you” question. It’s then that most couples start to ask questions. At the first meeting couples will ask questions like, “will it be about us?” The answer to that is YES it will. It will be all about you, and I tell them about my questionnaire that we will go through together. This will ensure it is all about YOU. They ask “what if I don’t know how to write my vows”? NO PROBLEM that’s what I’m there for. Another, “what if I cry?” (usually from the men!). ALL TAKEN CARE OF, I always have a lovely linen handkerchief ready for tears, after all, if you can’t cry on your wedding day, when can you?
By the end of this call we will know a lot about one another. And you will know that you will have my undivided attention. I do 12 weddings each year in order to give my couples the attention they deserve.

What happens next? I send you an email confirming in writing all what we have discussed and agreed together. I confirm the date of our next meeting and send you my Next Steps Guide. This contains all the information you need to start planning your ceremony.
What’s important to me as your Celebrant?
There are two things that are really important to me. The first is that YOUR CEREMONY is PERFECT FOR YOU, that it’s exactly what you want. I want it to make you sigh, cry and laugh, all at the same time. And secondly, and most importantly, it’s the trust that you allow me, to guide you through your ceremony. It’s the look on the face of your partner waiting at the alter as they turn to see you for the first time. You only get one chance and trust me, I will always let them know when to turn just at the right moment. It gives me goose-bumps just thinking about it. All of this is what’s important to me as your Celebrant!
Most of all, I love the fact that we work together as a team. You, me, and the wedding planner. We all work together, I work with you to ensure your ceremony is written perfectly to your specifications. And I work with your wedding planner to ensure your day is seamless. All you then have to do is turn up, look great, smile and repeat after me …
